MADLANDS
MADLANDS marks the PENTATONE debut of pianist and composer Yang Bao, offering a stunningly beautiful and audacious journey into what it means to be human amid the rising tides of artificial intelligence and ecological upheaval. Written for piano, six strings, and a palette of analog synthesizers–including the Korg PS-3300 and MiniMoog–Bao’s eleven compositions reimagine identity and belonging in a world where human, machine, and nature co-exist in delicate, suspenseful symbiosis. Drawing on his visual art practice, Bao pairs this sonic vision with his striking artwork, reflecting the duality between the visible and the invisible.

HYPERSPACE by Yang Bao is a 14-track album that reimagines music as a living, tangible experience, blending piano, analog synthesizers, and the ancient guqin to embody Bao’s visionary concept of Infinity Music—a dynamic, multidimensional soundscape where multiple compositions play simultaneously without a fixed order.
At the heart of this album is Bao’s HYPERSPACE sound sculpture complex at The Donum Estate—a constellation of 24K gold-coated, mirror-finish stainless steel sound sculptures that dynamically interact with wind, sunlight, rain, and other natural elements to mirror the unpredictable beauty of the environment. This album features a selection of compositions from HYPERSPACE. The guqin is played by Zhu Meijun, a student of Denghong and of the Master Guan Pinghu’s Lineage.
